Meet the Team
Katie and Kim have worked together for over 10 years. They have a combined 40+ years in the dental field. After dealing with multiple headaches trying to get their own instruments sharpened, they decided that starting a business to provide sharpening services in-office could help dentists, hygienists and patients alike.
Get Sharp Instruments LLC will strive to educate dental offices on the benefits of sharpening hygiene instruments on a regular basis. GSI will also continue to provide the best possible in-office sharpening service to allow dental offices to offer more comfortable and efficient patient care while extending instrument life and reducing fatigue to providers.

FounderKatie Barto attended Eastern Illinois University before attending dental school at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. Dr Barto has worked in all aspects of dentistry including Indian Health Service, teaching at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine, working with a mobile school dental program, being an expert witness, working as a military contractor, owning her own dental office, among others.
Dr Barto has done almost everything possible in dentistry! She believes that dentistry is a wonderful profession and there are so many ways to use our dental training to benefit patients, hygienists and everyone involved in this field. Working in so many different aspects of dentistry has given her a unique perspective when it comes to ideas on how to improve patient care, staff morale and overall office efficiency.
Get Sharp Instruments LLC was born from realizing an issue with the current status quo in dentistry when it comes to hygiene instruments. Most offices either don't sharpen their instruments or risk sending them out for weeks at a time. Dr Barto and Kim are now working to solve this problem with a new, organized, efficient, affordable and reliable in-office service. Dr Barto loves traveling and exploring Chicagoland. Her favorite thing to do is to go on new adventures with her family. She lives in Downers Grove with her husband and four children.

Dental Hygienist
Kim Sanda has been working in dentistry since 1997 and completed the Dental Hygiene Program at College of Dupage in 2007. Kim loves working as a clinician as well as coming up with ways to improve different aspects of the dental office. She feels that ergonomics in Hygiene are so important for the profession as well as patient comfort. Having sharp instruments has always been a challenge, until now!
Kim loves to read, travel to new places, and lead her daughter's Girl Scout troop. She lives in Bolingbrook with her husband and two daughters.
